Therapy Cats

Did you know that therapy cats can do the same type of work as therapy dogs? Our therapy cats have visited assisted living facilities, a variety of schools from elementary through university, hospitals, and physical rehabilitation centers. They have also attended dog walks, participated in costume contests, and helped teach classes on cat care! They have touched the lives of so many. We love them for who they are, and are so proud of all they bring to other people.

It all started with Arcadia Grace, also called Cadi. See how Cadi got started and kept the tradition going over at theBig Meow Website.

When we aren't busy grooming, Ellen enjoys working with her Pet Partners Registered Therapy Cats. Cadi passed her first evalution in 2013. Until the pandemic she regularly visited the residents at Spring Arbor in Durham (now Carolina Reserve of Durham). Vivo passed her first evaluation in 2016 and enjoyed visiting friends at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Durham. While the Pandemic forced the girls to stay in, they were still able to visit remotely with the VA.

In addition to their regular visits, both girls enjoyed going to UNC-Chapel Hill during exams for exam stress relief, where they have been guests at Park Library and the Health Sciences Library. Cadi has also been to camps for children, dog walks, and taught a class at Jordan High School on cat care. Cadi passed in 2022, and is still missed by many of her friends she made over the years.

Due to privacy concerns we don't have many pictures that can be posted publicly with their fans, but you can follow the cats at Facebook.com/DurhamTherapyCats. The cats are very proud of the work they do and always enjoy meeting new people.

Vivo now works solely at Trilling Cat as the CFO (Chief Feline Officer). During the pandemic she suffered an injury and now finds going out too stressful. She will gladly greet our clients who come to Trilling Cat and show them how friendly therapy cats are.

Turbo is currently in training for therapy work and is doing great. As soon as he's ready he'll be signing up to take his evaluation test and become the next Durham Therapy Cat!
